Frequently Asked Questions

Nielsen is a global research company providing the market standard in audience and consumer measurement. We have been a trusted leader in media measurement for over 90 years, and we currently study consumers in more than 100 countries.

A panel is a group of people that we’ve chosen to represent a larger group of people. Since it’s not feasible to include everyone in a specific geographic area, like a country or city, we use sophisticated sampling and statistics to ensure that the sample we use is representative of the larger population. How do we do this? Nielsen data scientists create smaller groups that mimic the demographics and behavior of the larger overall populations. In that way, we can accurately understand the behavior of a larger population without actually engaging with each and every person in that larger group.

The ConfluenceTV Panel is your opportunity to be a part of the research we do here at Nielsen. This panel helps understand how consumers use their TV. By simply installing our app on your TV, you are helping us to understand the TV viewing world.

At Nielsen, we're all about understanding trends on TV - the content that you view, types of applications installed on TV, as well as the websites you visit on your TV. Your everyday activities as a panelist will help us understand how people use their TV. It doesn't matter if you watch TV a lot or a little or even how you use it, the information on your usage is important to us and is a valuable contribution to our research.

As a bonus, you will be rewarded for your participation. By becoming an active member of the Confluence TV Panel, you will earn daily points (according to the eligibility criteria) which can be redeemed for a variety of vouchers and gift cards through our website.

As a part of the recruitment questionnaire, we collect basic information on the household details like the age, gender, education levels, ownership of durables and white goods etc..These help us to categorize households into broader groups, which allows for better data aggregation and analysis.

The Confluence TV app monitors and collects data on your TV viewing habits, including the specific apps and websites you use on your TV and the duration of your TV usage. Additionally the app also records your TV system information such as the brand and the model.

The information about your devices will be combined with others but your private information will never be shared. For e.g., we may report that 30% of our panel viewed a specific program title but no one will ever know if you individually watched that program on your TV.

We do NOT collect user IDs or passwords. For more information on the type of data being collected and privacy practices, please read our Privacy Policy
